Diagnostics
At Family Vet Lake St. Louis, we prioritize early detection to ensure your pet receives the best possible care. We offer a variety of diagnostic services, including cutting-edge equipment and the convenience of an on-site laboratory. While most tests are sent to a trusted reference lab for thorough analysis, we do have the ability to perform certain critical tests on-site when same-day results are necessary for urgent care.
In-House Laboratory
For cases that require immediate results, our on-site laboratory allows us to perform key tests quickly. This helps us make timely decisions about your pet’s care, especially in critical situations. For more comprehensive or specialized testing, we work closely with trusted reference labs to ensure accurate and detailed results.
Digital Radiology (X-Rays)
Family Vet Lake St. Louis uses advanced imaging technologies, operated by board-certified veterinary radiologists, to ensure the highest quality of care for our patients.
Radiographs, or x-rays, help us identify internal issues such as skeletal fractures, soft tissue damage, foreign bodies, and dental disease. Orthopedic radiographs and contrast studies often require sedation to ensure the pet remains still during the procedure. These procedures are short and typically have a swift recovery time, with a board-certified anesthesiologist overseeing all sedation and anesthesia.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a valuable diagnostic tool that provides real-time images of your pet’s internal structures. It helps us screen for issues such as internal masses, bladder concerns, gastrointestinal problems, and internal fluid buildup.
Ultrasounds work by sending high-frequency sound waves into your pet’s body, and the reflected waves create an image of the internal organs. This non-invasive, painless procedure is especially useful for examining organs like the stomach, kidneys, liver, spleen, and gallbladder. In some cases, an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) can provide detailed information about heart valves, blood flow, and chamber size.
Ultrasounds are typically performed under light sedation to keep your pet still and ensure the most accurate results.
